TFT Tapping to Clear Trauma

In this post, I’m going to explain TFT tapping to clear trauma and demonstrate through a video how to do it.

Did you know you can inherit trauma from past generations? Or download your parents’ trauma and fears? Or even have trauma before you were born? In fact, you can, and that kind of trauma needs a special kind of technique to clear it.

The best technique I’ve found is TFT tapping to clear trauma. TFT stands for Thought Field Therapy and it’s one of the techniques I’ve been using for about a year. This is a technique I learned from a book by Dr. Henry Grayson titled Your Power to Heal.

Here’s a demonstration video I did that you can learn from and use to do it yourself. If you want to simply do the technique and pause the video as you do it, I have a straight through recap 7 minutes in.

There is no shortage of research proving that unprocessed trauma causes increased illness, increased doctor visits, increased allergies, increased depression and anxiety, and increased stress hormones. So having techniques like TFT tapping to clear trauma at our disposal is vital to not only our emotional health but our physical health as well.

Can You Really Inherit Trauma From Your Ancestors?

Yes, you can. In religious circles it might be called generational sin. In scientific circles it’s called transgenerational epigenetic inheritance. Consider this study done by Rachel Yehuda and associates. The study found that trauma from Holocaust survivors was passed on to their children’s DNA.

But even if we have inherited gene markers for trauma we can shut them off so to speak through the TFT tapping technique. This, in effect, renders them unable to affect the way you think and act anymore.

Parental Downloads and TFT

A parental download is a belief or way of seeing the world that you literally download from your parents or caregivers. These downloads occur especially when we are very young and suggestible. So if a parent was very anxious every time she got in the car to drive, you might feel anxious every time you get in the car to drive, even though you have no reason to be.

According to Dr. Grayson in his book Your Power to Heal,

We may download our mom’s or dad’s pattern of dealing with conflicts, how they handle stress, how they communicate, how they deal with challenges, and a multitude of other things. We may also download their beliefs about health, sickness, and healing or the way they deal with illnesses or staying healthy. We may download their fears, guilts, pressures, and demands, as well as their attitudes about being powerless or having control in the world. We do all this as if our brain computer were connected to the Internet.

p. 126

This is powerful to understand that we absorb these things like a sponge and operate our lives out of them. The saying, “Like mother, like daughter” couldn’t be more true.

TFT for Intrauterine Trauma and Trauma Before Language

When we are growing in the womb, not only are we alive, but we are experiencing emotions and can feel stress. Researchers can implant tiny cameras into the uterus and observe the reactions of the growing baby. If the parent is experiencing loving interaction, having a pleasant time, or listening to classical music, the fetus is calm, happy and peaceful.

However as Dr. Grayson shares,

If the parents are fighting or the fetus hears harsh music, such as acid rock or rap, it will straighten, arch its back, and display distinct signs of extreme tension, as if trying to escape from the disturbance.

p. 86

We can also have trauma at birth and before we learn language. If there were complications at birth or the baby is very sensitive, things can be traumatic for them. In addition, if basic needs are not met or traumatic experiences such as abuse happen during the first year or so of life, that trauma is imprinted in the mind, heart, and body of the baby and affects the rest of a person’s life.

Clear Trauma with TFT Tapping

If you want to know how to muscle test yourself, there are many good YouTube videos on self muscle testing. Here’s one you may like that offers 7 ways to self-muscle test. You can determine whether you have intrauterine trauma, birth trauma, or pre-verbal trauma, parental downloads, or ancestral trauma by making statements such as:

There are intrauterine traumas [or birth traumas or first-year-of-life traumas] contributing to this problem today. (Test)

There is no intrauterine trauma [or birth traumas or first-year-of-life trauma] contributing to this problem today. (Test)

p. 97

You can do the same for ancestral trauma or parental downloads. If you get a yes response from the testing, you will want to do the TFT tapping demonstrated in the video above to clear the trauma. Also check out the TFT example I did when I was actually clearing a negative belief.

When I do this, I actually try to figure out what the trauma is. I ask yes or no questions and test for a yes or no response. In this way I’ve been able to identify traumas that I have no conscious memory of, but that are still embedded in my unconscious memory bank.

TFT Tapping Protocol Progression

thymus heart rub
Rub your hand in a circular clockwise motion and over the thymus gland and repeat the following phrases:

I deeply love and accept myself even if I might think I don’t deserve to be free of this trauma.

I deeply love and accept myself even if I might think it’s not safe to let go of this trauma.

I deeply love and accept myself even if I might think I’m not worthy of being free of this trauma.

I deeply love and accept myself even if I’m afraid of letting go of this part of my old identity.

Place your fingers between the eyebrows and a little above. Take some deep breaths. Repeat:

Please do the equivalent of a wireless web search and find where this trauma is stored. Notice where it shows up in your body.

tap next to eyebrows
With a clear conscious intent to clear the trauma tap 20 times next to the eyebrow(s).
tap cheekbones under eyes
Tap 20 times under the eyes on the cheekbone(s).
tap below armpit
Tap 20 times about 4 inches below the armpit.
tap collarbones
Tap 20 times about one inch out and one inch down from the collarbones. Some people may have tender spots here.
tap gamut spot
Tap the gamut spot continuously (the back of the opposite hand between the pinkie and ring finger) and do the following:

Close your eyes.

Open your eyes.

Look down to the right.

Look down to the left.

Circle your eyes all the way around in one direction.

Circle your eyes all the way around in the other direction.

Hum some notes of a tune.

Count up to 5.

Hum some notes of a tune.

Count backward from 5 to 1.

Your Power to Heal, Grayson, Henry, PhD., Adapted from p. 112

Repeat the sequence tapping 15-20 times on the eyebrow spot, under the eyes, armpit area, and collarbone points.

look up into eye sockets
Tap the gamut spot again continuously while you look down and slowly raise your eyes as far as you can. Count to at least 30 seconds.

Finally take a deep breath and retest or check in with yourself to make sure you are at zero. Redo the protocol if necessary until you reach zero.
